Global empire

Industries of mess media are controlled by few large media companiesbecause the high concentrate of transnational media products in decades year(Chalaby, 2003).  Especially popular music industry, which are always main controlled by Sony, Warner, EMI and UMG 4 media companies after Sony combine Bertelsmann in 2004 during pop music industry development.  Another specifically example is advertisement industry, according to Tunstall and Machin(1999) report, only approximately 10 main large advertising groups have half funds of advertisements all of the world.  At same time, the the high concentrate of media industries and globalization leads the cooperation between media industries. The media companies cooperate and share benefit by purchase film together, co-product and commitment to budget together also promote the globalization. And America as the biggest country of mess media production got the most benefit during the process of globalization definitely.

We cannot simply say that globalization is Americanism. Although the products of media are much more than import in the Unit State, there still are lots of foreign cultural effects American cultural by immigration and  trade. So, the content of American media actually still globalization. For example, KFC have Peking duck burger and pizza hut have Peking duck pizza in China shops. The foreign cultural have to thinking about put in some local cultural if they want to into a country and be accepted by local people.

In conclusion, we cannot deny that globalization threaten the cultural identity and make western cultural become dominant cultural gradually, but the foreign cultural still can be controlled when them be imported to a country by local cultural, like translation, editing, dub and so on.

  1. Hi Candy!
Good example of Peking duck in KFC and Pizza Hut! Your example shows the bilateral effects of globalisation. Indeed, globalisation is not only about how Western culture influence non-Western countries, but also about how western culture is affected by non-western countries at the same time. Followed by your example, not only Peking duck, KFC also creates Chinese-style breakfast meal, which includes congee, tea-egg, baked sweet potatoes and different sorts of typical Chinese traditional food. In order to enter Chinese market, KFC has adopted a Chinese eating habit. Consequently, KFC often changes their recipes to Chinese style. They add a lot of new flavours such as spices, gingers, spring onions into the recipes to stimulate "difficult Chinese mouth". Nevertheless, as an American brand which has long history in international market, KFC is no longer only an American product; it has been long regarded as a "global fast food". Therefore, KFC is no longer an American cultural icon so we cannot overlook the international market by saying KFC Americanises the international market. In turn, KFC itself it is a typically global production. It was started in America but has been gone on to all over the world. It adopts local tastes wherever it goes! That is might be what we called" global cultural product"!
    Nice job!

  3. Great blog! I really liked what you said about globalisation not being just Americanism because indeed as big as products of the media are in the United States, media is widely broadcasted all over the world in every country and culture although it does have a global effect as you pointed out with food such as KFC and they include local food to attract local people.

I also enjoyed coming across your blog because yours has so far been the first with a nicer presentation with it comes to the text, colour and background. It made the page really nice to look at, good luck!

  4. I like how you are compering different well know brands (Sony, KFC, Pizza Hut etc. that really gave me as a reader a better understanding of what you´re trying to communicate.

The only thing I did not like about this blog was that a lot there is a lot of signs I was not able to read here (Chinese, Japanese or some other language I could not understand anything of?) You have to remember that this is a blog that's meant for a international audience and therefore it is crucial that as many people as possible can red EVERYTHING on you're blog.

I also enjoyed looking at the blog because you have chosen a really clean design wish i really like.

    Good Luck.

  5. In this blog, it is quite detail that talk about the music controlled by the main 4 music industries company. However I think this blog is to general to mention about the music. I think it can more interesting about the discussion like use of simply or comment example and use more image or link.
Last I really like she use different side to talk about the globalization media.

  6. I really like how you draw the example on how when an Americanize fast food chain expand their business into foreign country, they adapt the culture in the country trying to fit into the local culture and make it more localized to attract more potential customers to consume their food.

For example, KFC in Southeast Asia often serve rice as a side dish along with their chicken.
